The Art of
Craig Yenke
Traditional Folk Art Animals
For over 16 years Craig has been sculpting with paper-mache. Inspired by his parents' collection of antiques and old German toys, Craig experimented with different materials "until I found something that worked" to re-create the look and feel of old toys.
He sculpts his animals from wire, paper-mache, and cotton ~ and notes that he does every step by hand. "It would be easier to make one, then just use the mold for all the others," he admits, "but I think it's important to hand make each one so everyone can own an original piece."
Craig strives to make traditional designs with a sense of realism which fits his definition of folk art: "Using traditional methods or materials that define traditions and culture."
Each of Craig's animals is made when ordered. Larger pieces take longer to make than smaller ones. Please allow up to 3 weeks for receipt of your special work of art.
