The Art of
JEFFREY BARRICK
Originally from Goshen Indiana, Jeff Barrick began working for Boardwalk Originals in August 1992. He spent most of that season as the detail artist and inspector. Bonnie's staff of Artist/Painters were referred to as "Basepainters". Each basepainter chose a number which they wrote on the back of each and every piece they painted to identify their work. Jeff's number was "24" or various versions of his name.
In later years Barrick designed some pieces for the Boardwalk line, including a mermaid and the original "trick-or treaters" pair. Barrick also became the lead painter of the wooden panel framed paintings for a number of years. Jeff was also the only artist other than Bonnie who executed the rare large scale paintings that Boardwalk sold for a short time in the mid to late 90's which were originally designed for Radko. Barrick left Boardwalk in 1998 to pursue other artistic opportunities, yet his association with Boardwalk continued off and on through the years, not only in painting, but also in sales... right up until Bonnie closed the Boardwalk Originals studio in 2005. In 2008 Bonnie asked Jeff to design/paint a collection of work for the new Boardwalk line which was now being reproduced as digital paintings on wood Jeff's current collection of new designs/paintings for Bonnie reflect a different look for Boardwalk. While some of his work has a more "traditional Boardwalk" tyle, other works have a more Deco feel. "I like the style and look of that era, and I have painted several pieces that reflect that "Deco" sort of style." Jeff explains; "I feel that the Boardwalk line is unique in the marketplace and I would like to see it expand upon what it offers while maintaining a traditional core. I am very excited to be working with Bonnie again and she has been very supportive of my work. Expanding upon what Boardwalk has been offering for more than 20 years is an experiment of sorts, and we're excited to see what happens." Jeff is also an accomplished muralist and has been painting murals for ten years. He has painted murals for public spaces as well as residential. For Barrick, painting murals is one of his favorite projects as an artist. Jeff has also exhibited and sold his own personal art in several local galleries working in various mediums. Most of his works are executed in watercolor, acrylics, and pencil, or a combination of these. He has also worked as a product designer for a wholesale company producing vintage inspired Christmas/Holiday collections. Since 2001, Barrick has also worked regularly as a scenic artist and designer in local theatrical venues both designing and painting backdrops and set pieces.
